How did we do this review?

The three-yearly review of the Singapore Green Plan (SGP) 2012 started on 22 April 2005, with widespread public consultation through a variety of platforms, and with more than 17,000 Singaporeans participating:

.  An Internet survey (May to Aug 2005), saw 2,800 respondents answering questions on a range of environmental issues. The results showed strong public support for various initiatives to enhance our environment, like more energy-efficient measures and cutting down on packaging to reduce waste.

.  A Climate Change Roundtable (May 2005), raised the importance of the issue. Chaired by Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, key opinion leaders from the industry, academia, green groups and other government agencies discussed what more Singapore could do to address this issue. The Roundtable discussion outcomes have been used as inputs to a comprehensive Climate Change action plan which is currently being developed.

.  A public forum (July 2005) saw 200 participants engage in lively discussions with the six co-chairpersons of Focus Groups (doing the three-yearly review) on their interim recommendations.

.  A public exhibition, "Our Environment Story" (October to December 2005) shared key ideas from the review and was exhibited in various locations in the city and neighborhoods. Close to 14,000 have visited the exhibition

In-depth consultation was carried out through three appointed Focus Groups, comprising about sixty 3P (People, Public, Private) sector representatives. They deliberated over four months and held discussions with relevant industry and interest groups. Public feedbacks received were forwarded to the Focus Groups for their consideration and incorporated into their recommendations. These recommendations were submitted to MEWR in August 2005.
