What is RSS?
Really Simple Syndication, or RSS, provides a free and easy way for you keep you updated on latest content from your favourite websites using an XML format. Instead of having to revisit a website to see if it has fresh content, you can view an aggregation of latest headlines via a RSS reader which collects news from your selected websites.
How Do I Get a Feed Reader?
Newer versions of some web browsers — such as Internet Explorer, Firefox and Apple's Safari have simple RSS readers built into them. Alternatively, you can download and install a desktop-based RSS reader, or sign up for a web-based reader.
  • Desktop-based RSS Readers
These readers have to be downloaded and installed on your computer. Some popular desktop-based RSS Reader software includes FeedReader.
Different feed readers work on different operating systems, so please take this into account when you choose one.
  • Web-based RSS Readers
These readers require no software installation and make the feeds available on any computer with Web access.
How to subscribe to a RSS feed?
Once you have set up your RSS reader, you are ready to subscribe to the RSS feeds. Each RSS reader has a slightly different way of subscribing to a new feed. Follow the directions for your reader but, generally, this is how it works in most cases:
  • Copy the address of the RSS Feed by right-clicking on the RSS link or the orange RSS icon rss-icon, then select "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy Link Location". For example, the URL for the MEWR RSS feed is
    http://www.mewr.gov.sg/rss
  • Paste the address into the "Add New Subscription / Add New Channel" section of the reader. The RSS feed will start to display and regularly update the headlines for you.
