Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR), and His Excellency Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) met in Singapore for the 1st KeTTHA-MEWR Joint Committee Meeting on 12 July 2016. During Minister Masagos’ introductory visit to Malaysia on 25 February 2016, both Ministers then agreed to establish regular dialogue between the Ministries to exchange information and discuss water-related issues in both countries.
2 At the 1st KeTTHA-MEWR Joint Committee Meeting, the Ministries shared their respective approaches to water supply and water resource management and the emerging challenges faced by both countries, including climate change.
3 On issues of common interest to both countries, the Ministers noted the progress on the Johor River Barrage and the importance for it to be operational and completed expeditiously. The Ministers also discussed additional schemes by Malaysia to increase the yield of Johor River.
4 The Ministers looked forward to the next Committee Meeting in 2017 in Malaysia.
