We have been working hard to build more rail lines and to bring them closer to homes. This will enhance the accessibility and convenience of our rail network to keep up with Singaporeans’ needs, and to encourage more Singaporeans to use the rail network.
When completed, the new lines and extensions will significantly expand the coverage of the rail network, such that 8 in 10 households will live within a 10-minute walk from a rail station.
New Rail Extensions/Lines Almost Every Year until 2025: From now till 2025, a new extension or line will open almost every year. This year, we will look forward to the completion of the Tuas West Extension and the Downtown Line 3. The Thomson-East Coast Line will open in stages from 2019 until 2024, and commuters can also look forward to the Downtown Line 3 Extension by 2024, and the Circle Line Extension and Jurong Region Line by 2025. By 2030, the North East Line extension and the Cross Island Line will be completed, and the network will be 360km long.
